First Impressions
January 4, 2010 – 11:39 pmIt’s past 11pm. The first evening of the 2010 SGI Conference is winding down. I’m sitting in the high school building next to Inter-City Baptist Church watching ten college-age attendees play pickup basketball. While they’re playing, a few groups of guys are in the hallways and stairways praying that God would work the first message into their lives, that He would advance His church by raising up strong soldiers. At the same time, other guys are getting to know each other for the first time, and others are in their cots (apparently, these beds are similar to what the Red Cross uses in refugee camps) chatting about their missions burdens and exchanging missions strategies. It’s refreshing to see a few hundred twenty-somethings putting feet to their burdens for the advance of the Great Commission.
What am I thinking about as I go to sleep? Dave Doran’s words at the conclusion of tonight’s session:
“Be more concerned about walking with God than you are about doing something great for God. Your relationship with God is at the center of your effectiveness in the Great Commission.”
