CW: About Us

Commercial Week
When I travel for Missions Mandate/Student Global Impact and meet new people they often begin the conversation with “Where are you from?”, “What do you do?”, “Where did you go to school?”, etc.
In my attempt to provide a concise summary of what I do with MM/SGI, I often begin by explaining the history of our church’s (Inter-City Baptist) missions ministry. I then state the theological foundation of our missions philosophy and our burden to help other churches and individuals develop a God-centered view of missions.
This next segment of “commercial week” is focused on the About Us page, explaining where Missions Mandate came from and where it is going. Our desire with this page is to do more than just explain what church we are affiliated with and a little bit about each author.
We publish this information to provide a guide to the nature of the ministries of MM/SGI. We purpose to stick to our vision, mission, core values, doctrine, etc. We encourage others to develop an intentional, God-exalted philosophy of world-wide missions; our About Us page lays out our ministry’s attempt to do the same.
1. Our Vision - “God-centered, local church-driven missions mobilization.”
This is the heartbeat of our mobilization efforts, that people would have an exalted view of God’s sovereign plan to redeem people for the sake of His name in all the earth.
God has chosen to work through the instrument of local churches, both in confessing gospel truths to the unsaved and discipling those who are saved.
2. Our Mission - “Missions Mandate exists to equip local churches for God-centered missions mobilization.”
Connecting our vision statement with other ministries is our mission statement. We want to point the leadership of local churches to resources that will enable them to implement a biblical, God-honoring view of missions in their church.
This will, in turn, enable them to foster a biblical view of missions in their local church as well as in other local churches. That’s the beauty of missions mobilization; it spreads the passion to other people/churches.
3. Our Core Values. The six core values of MM further detail our attempt to cultivate a biblical view of missions. A previous MM post has already explained the core values in detail, so I will just list them below.
I. Provide instructive missions material pertinent to the local church’s task of missions mobilization
II. Establish a historical and biblical perspective of missions
III. Stir individuals to abandonment to God’s mission
IV. Inform the reader of current world issues and their relation to missions efforts
V. Clarify missions terminology, the ideology behind the terms, and the impact the terminology has upon the local church’s task of missions
VI. Adhere to a God-centered philosophy in all things
4. Our Doctrine
As the “About us” page says, “a proper missions philosophy begins with a sure theological and doctrinal foundation.” We strive to base all of our missions philosophy and practice upon our theological foundation as outlined in our doctrine statement.
5. Our Book
The Lord has given us the opportunity to publish our church’s missions manual in book format under the title For the Sake of His Name. You can obtain more information about the book and purchase it from the MM Store.
6. Our History
The ministries of Missions Mandate and SGI didn’t emerge in a vacuum. The “Our History” section traces the development of our church’s missions philosophy from the late 90s to its current state.
You can also read about this development over the last 20 years as Pastor Doran shares his thoughts over at his Glory and Grace blog.
7. Our Speakers
If you would like one of our MM speakers to come speak at a missions event or church service please let us know.
8. Our Contributing Authors
If you would like to know who writes the posts at the MM blog you can read their descriptions at the Contributing Authors page.
9. Contact Us
I love to hear feedback and ideas about the blog, missions in general, evangelism, the gospel, the persecuted church, pioneer missions, etc. Let us know what you’re thinking and follow us for more info.
