Don’t Waste Your Spring Break
March 12, 2009 – 3:53 pmCampus Bible Fellowship at Waynes State University posted a video this week entitled “Don’t Waste Your Spring Break.” (view the video at the bottom of this post) In it, Ben Edwards, Director of Urban Ministry, suggests that students take advantage of their free time to spend more time reading the Bible and praying, sharing the gospel with people they meet, reading missionary biographies, or helping their pastor at their home church.
One group of young guys are taking this philosophy to heart. Andrew, Audrius, and Greg, students at Northland Baptist Bible College, are taking their spring break week and ministering in New York City. Check out their NYC Missions Trip blog for more details.
I am a seminary student and am looking forward to my spring break in a couple of weeks. My wife and I will be attending a college’s missions conference during the first half of the week and will be home the second half. I will inevitably pull out my endless list of projects that I’ve been putting off and attempt to check a couple off the list (my taxes should be finished by then!). But I was recently challenged to look for specific opportunities to share the gospel with people during the break. Certain people came to mind: the cute, toothless neighbor kid a few houses down, the barista at the coffee shop I frequent, our next-door neighbors, and our English conversational partners at a local university. It seems that our (at least my) default mode during breaks and free evenings is to orient my time around my agenda and creature-comforts. But does that follow the Phil 2 model of thinking more highly over others than I do myself? Is that a formula for a wasted spring break?
So what are you doing with your spring break? What’s your story? What goals/resolutions have you set for yourself? Give us some feedback.*

Great video! Thanks Ben and Tim. I hope to invest my spring break by sharing the gospel with others, loving my family, and loving my Lord.
