Update on Eshelman Family

February 26, 2009 – 3:28 pm

We highlighted a prayer request for Dr. Eshelman, a doctor ministering at a clinic in Albania (via David Hosaflook’s December prayer letter) at the beginning of December. Here is an update on his status (via David Hosaflook’s January prayer letter):

Thank you who have prayed and written letters on behalf of our friend Dr. Eshelman, who has been falsely and unethically accused.  There is not much new to report: things are still pending; his case has not been thrown out; his reputation has continued to be damaged; and the ABC Clinic has been hurt economically.  We recently received his prayer requests, and although it is lengthy, I wanted to include the full text for you, not only to give serious prayer points to those of you who have taken this on seriously, but also to give what I think is a touching illustration of how a Jesus-follower should respond to an unrighteous attack.  I was moved when I read the requests (see letter below).

Letter from Dr. Eshelman:

January 19, 2009 - Dear friends whom God has called together to Pray,

This is my attempt to put together a list of requests that could be used as fodder for prayer.  (Sometimes a list to follow can be an aid to focus prayer.)  But I don’t want to presume to know all the right requests.  I want to be sure to leave room for the Holy Spirit to direct us in our thoughts, in our emotions, and with Scripture … so that we are open to be “praying His prayers” as much as possible.

As so many are praying for me / us, I am honored, humbled, grateful, and encouraged!  I am in need, too, of your support in this way at this particular time.  (I want to communicate my, and the whole family’s thankfulness to you!)

God has also put another request in my heart through this time.  It is the hope and expectation that He will be working in a much bigger way.  With His using this case to calling so many people to prayer, both here and around the world, I suspect He is working on many different levels!   I bet He will not only be focusing on this specific legal case, but that He wants to bring breakthroughs in the justice system here, in the government as a whole, in the whole nation… and maybe even in regions around.

Know that God is at work.  I have sensed this from the start of this case.  He continues to reinforce that as we go along.  Things have not been easy.  The case has not be dropped as we had hoped it would be, but I have been obedient to our Father’s leading in each step of the way, and am blessed that we have peace and hope.  Remember that He is glorified by our unity in prayer.  Please thank Him and praise Him.  It is a privilege for us to each be playing a part of something that He is doing in this country that we love, Albania!  Let’s ask Him to be working in individual hearts, groups of co-workers, communities, cities, and people groups.  Let’s look for Him to work in our lives as we connect with Him in this way.

Sincerely,

Guy Eshelman, MD
