UN Contingent Unable to Prevent Mass Slaughter in Congo Village
December 11, 2008 – 10:08 amA New York Times article, published this morning, describes the mass killing of at least 150 Congolese residents of Kiwanja, Congo in a 24 hour time period. The rebel group, led by Laurent Nkunda, still occupies control of the village. The irony is that a group 100 UN peacekeeping troops were stationed less than 1 mile from this village. Poor intelligence, lack of interpreters, and lack of proper support were the reasons given for their lack of intervention. The troops claimed “they had no idea that the killings were taking place until it was all over.”

We must continue to uphold our brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer, as they endure these harsh trials. Let us also pray that God will work out His sovereign purposes through this ensuing turmoil - for the praise of His Name! Remember the churches, pastors, and missionaries laboring for the gospel as well.
